What is Demon Derby?
Demon Derby is a new and original Printable Card Game by Morien Jones.
Dark creatures vie to become all-powerful and smite their challengers. The only safety lies in absolute power. The shadowy hand of the sinister underground supernatural guild, the 'Gothic Nostra' is at work here, and it’s time to select a new leader. There can only be one victor, and the losers pay with their lives.

Bring forth a power-hungry character from your team of super-charged beings, and compete. Only one character can survive each round of the power-race.

The play is quick and easy to pick up and may players can play. It also works as a solo game, if you don’t mind drawing cards for the “opponent”.

For Ages 6 – Adult

Storyline
Beneath the agony and glamour of our world, beats the dark heart of another world ... a veiled world. Everything is not as it seems.
This is a world of magic and monsters, hidden from those whose eyes are not yet open to see. Pretenders plot and scheme. Beasts put on human skins and walk amongst us.
Prowling our urban jungles are creatures of darkness, changing our perceptions to avoid our gaze. Hiding whilst in full sight. Beware, my friend, beware.
One can smile … and smile … and be a villain.
Bolt the shutters and lock the doors,
For something wicked is abroad.

Set-up
Share out the Character Cards between evenly between players. These characters become your teams. Discard any surplus Character Cards so every player has the same number of characters. Shuffle the remaining playing cards, (Action Cards,) and place them face down on the table.

The Game takes the form of Rounds. Rounds are played and Character Cards are eliminated until only one person holds Character Cards.

ccg

Starting a Round
Each player rolls the dice. The player with the highest score starts first and the turns proceed clockwise.

Each player places one Character Card down. These are the characters that will be competing in this round of the game.

Take it in turns to place an Action Card next to your character. Follow the instructions on the card. If the card is a “Power Up” or a “Power Up Plus” then it remains in the trail, else the card is discarded into the Discard Pile.

Winning the Round
As soon as a character has 10 “Power Up” or a “Power Up Plus” cards in his trail he/she has become all powerful, destroys the other characters competing against him, and wins the Round. The player who controls this character gets to hold on to the Character Card, whilst the Character Cards that competed with him/her in this round, take no further part in the Game. The Action Cards are shuffled and new Characters are chosen and the next round begins as before.

Winning the Game
When you run out of Character Cards you are out of the game. The last person with any surviving Character Cards wins the Game outright and becomes the Shadow-Master of the Earth. Yeah!

Item Cards
If you turn up an Item Card place it to the left of the Character Card. You have now equipped your character. The rules on this card now apply to your character.

Losing Item Cards
There are a few ways to lose you items by following rules on Action Cards but often they are lost in combat. If another character beats you in combat and reduces your Power Ups to zero, they can steal any or all of your Item Cards from you.

Combat
If you pick up a Duel Card you may opt to enter combat with an opponent character. The opponent can refuse and discard one “Power Up” or “Power Up Plus” from his trait. If the fight is on, you work it out like this…

You roll the Dice; add any modifiers, (like Item Cards modifiers,) and also add 1 for every three “Power Up” or “Power Up Plus” cards you possess.
Vs.
Your opponent rolls the Dice; add any modifiers, (like Item Cards,) and also add 1 for every three “Power Up” or “Power Up Plus” cards your opponent possess.

If it’s a draw – nothing happens, otherwise the looser looses all his/her “Power Up” and “Power Up Plus” cards. Also the winner can steal any Item Cards from the looser, and place them to the right of his own Character Card.

After this, play continues as normal.

The One Weapon Rule
You can’t use more than one “weapon” type item at the same time, (eg. You can’t use the modifiers for a sword, a dagger, and a gun at the same time, you have to choose one.)
